Your clients don't want an agency

Your clients don't want an agency

Be honest now. Are you really Founder & CEO of a multi-person company?

The image you're clinging to is driving your clients away.

There’s a weird pressure to sound bigger online, like somehow admitting you work alone makes you less serious or professional.

I also fell into the trap and wondered if I should use “I” or “we” as if that one word could make or break a client’s decision.

But after almost a decade, I realised that the ones who want to work with a designer are literally just looking for a designer.

They don’t care about whether you're an agency or not, they just want the best result for their business.

Check yourself real quick.

  • Do your website and social bios sound like you, or what you think they want to hear?

  • Look at your best client relationships - why did they hire you?

  • If a client is impressed by corporate language more than your actual work, are they really your ideal client?

Your skills are still something to shout about, but you can't provide the agency experience, so don't pretend to.

You'll have much happier clients as a result.

Drop me a reply over on Twitter (X) if you’ve felt this pressure too. I'd love to hear some stories on how it worked out.
